Thoughts on a 1983 Volkswagen Cabrio project?

Guy by me is selling this 83 rabbit 5 speed project car has oil pressure problems some rust but looks decent in photos. I am not too familiar with these cars but its been for sale for a year and it hes listing it for 1200 think I can get it for less. Are these a fun car to drive? Do they go fast ? and are they cheap and easy to work on?
