Hiya friendos. So, to start, shouldn't have bought the car financially speaking, am stuck in it for at least a couple more months. Recently had surgery that, while planned, had some minor complications and then overran on costs during recovery and obliterated my planned budget and then some. Thus, my bank account is pretty dismal at the moment as I just started working again, and am hunting for a higher paying job.
It's a 2012 GTI with a DSG, about 75k miles. A couple of weeks ago it started struggling with the "sport" mode where it would hold a gear, go down a gear and jump to redline, and then slams back down with no change in throttle input. I just avoided sport mode and told myself to get the trans service soon since, and then today it did the same thing when I was leaving a light and goosed it to avoid another car, but in regular 'drive'. The sudden change was hard enough to chirp the tires at like, 2/3rds throttle input at most. Transmission was still cold and I drove gingerly after that, and had no further hiccups.
I admit transmissions are my weakest spot in car knowledge, and this is my first automatic in years. I don't trust myself working on them, nor do I have the equipment required for a DSG service.
Is this just normal behavior for a DSG? I wasn't planning on the DSG service for another few months since I drive a whopping 12 miles a day and like mentioned, surgery kinda sucked me dry. Can I just drive easy for a bit before taking it in when I have more money or is this a "it'll explode tomorrow if you don't fix it RIGHT NOW" kinda thing?
Sorry if this is a bit long winded, ya girl is stressed. Thanks for your answers in advance!
