Audi A3 2.0 tfsi vs Golf GTI with IE Stage 1

Firstly are the engines in these cars identical? Im looking into getting a GTI but ive heard that the Audi A3 has the exact same engine, if so I would probably opt for that because of the quattro system which makes it much faster off of the line I assume? Also I assume if I stage one the A3 it will give out the exact same hp as the stage 1 GTI?
