Missing scales from fighting or parasite or ?

This is my beloved Cupid. He was a pet store goldfish (origin story separate, no I do not support pet stores), only ~1mo out of said pet store. Needless to say he was not kept well. I'm not sure if he always had this on both sides or not, at least one side was always like this. He was unfortunately exposed to an ammonia spike under my care last week as well, which I doubt sped any healing if it is just missing scales from fighting. Please advise re origin and treatment.
