RV Newbie Generator Dilemma - '99 Pace Arrow
Post Body

I've put down a deposit on what looks (to me) like a great deal on a gently used Pace Arrow. The dealer is cleaning it up and getting it ready. They said there is a problem with the generator. Generac 480 Q55G 5500 watts.

After having a shop look at it, apparently the carb needs replacing. The repair shop is claiming that parts are getting very difficult to come by and it could be a week or so before it's ready to go.

The dealer had agreed to have it ready for me tomorrow, so they are suggesting that they will buy a brand new portable style generator instead of doing the repair. They claim it offer the same or better stats as the old one.

The trade off will be that I won't be able to just push a button and engage it from the inside, and of course, it will need to be deployed completely on the outside. Setting it up for possible theft and of course exposure to the environment.

I'm a tinker and can change spark plugs, oil, the occasional timing belt.

So, do I just wait and have them fix it ( I don't have a 'MUST HAVE IT NOW' attitude, so waiting won't kill me.

Or, do I take the new portable generator and get some parts from ebay/internet and try and tackle it myself?

This will be our first RV, and we're looking forward to many great adventures AND contributing back to the community. I truly hate that my first post contains an ask.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on it.

ps. About 35,000 miles on the RV, about 570 hours on the hobbs for the generator.
