Question about “The Favorite Token”

This card, Follow Through, has the added text at the bottom mentioning that I could power up the attack if the target has the “Favorite Token,” which I’m assuming is connected to “The Favorite” card…? How would an enemy have the favorite token if I would have to kill the enemy to put the token on the map? Please help 😭🙃
