With the Korean Peninsula being made up of nearly 70% mountains, specially trained troops to fight in such terrain will be critical for any conflict in the region. While all DPRK troops do receive basic mountain fighting training the armed forces lack any unit specifically trained and organized to fight in mountains. Therefore, the government of the DPRK has decided to create a special division made up of elite troops from across the armed forces who will especially train in mountain combat. The training will be primarily based on the US “Army Mountain Warfare School” and will have the following courses:

• Basic Military Mountaineer Course
• Advanced Military Mountaineer Course (Summer)
• Advanced Military Mountaineer Course (Winter)
• Mountain Planners Course
• Mountain Rifleman Course

We will require all troops to complete this training before entering the division. To encourage soldiers to enlist in the division we will give double rations and increased pay to all recruits. This division will accept only the best of the best in the DPRK. All this is expected to drastically increase the DPRK’s ability to fight in mountainous terrain and increase flexibility in case of a conflict.
