One of the most important countries in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has come a long way from its iconic war with the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Economic reforms known as Doi Moi have opened up the country to private ownership and foreign investment, significantly reducing poverty while also making Vietnam one of the world's fastest growing economies. In foreign relations, they are among the leading voices for containment of the growing influence of China, reflecting centuries of interplay between the two states and the desire of Vietnam to keep China at arms length.
My plan is to expand Vietnamese influence to its neighbors, in order to offer an alternative to expanding Chinese influence. I plan to reach out to the United States, Australia and Russia as potential allies.
