Designed to standardize the PLAN's destroyer force, replacing all destroyers older than the Type 052C (aside from the Sovremenny-class). Sharing many similarities with the Type 052D, the Type 052E have not departed much from the traditional formula for the Type 052E, with some capability enhancements. The commonality between the Type 052C, Type 052D and Type 052E is expected to streamline training and maintenance. This also means that development for the Type 052E is kept at a minimum reducing the time it takes to induct the class into PLAN service, with the Type 052E taking over the Type 052D's for an estimated schedule for launching up to 4 ships per year. Costing $800 million per ship, with the planned class size of 24 ships, the Type 052E is due to be the mainstay multirole combatant for the People's Liberation Army Navy.
