[R&D] A return to conventional submarines
Post Body

The Silent Service have always been running low on submarine numbers. With commitments all over the globe, our current fleet of Ship Submersibles are too low to maintain a continuous patrol, escort and commitments. With this, couple with the mounting pressure at Faslane from the locals to remove nuclear submarines from the base have lead to conventional submarines being a very attractive option, being cheap and still very capable.

With that in mind, the Royal Navy have chosen a deriative of the A26 submarine design by Kockums, jointly produced with BAE Systems, specially tailored to Royal Navy standards, being capable of extremely long ranged (for SSKs) patrols, with a double hull, as well as being capable of surfacing over thin ice. The subs will be built in Malmo, and fitted out at Devonport, and will conclude the Submarine Force of the 2030s initiative, and the penultimate project in the revival of the Royal Navy, with the last to be scheduled for 2028, being a deep refit of the Type 45 fleet.
