He lies dead in his coffin, the incumbent Prime Minister Hun Sen; managing Cambodia since 1985, old age has taken it's toll on him as he finally rests.

A man of power and corruption, he was one of the symbols of Cambodia indeed, maybe not a positive one, but a symbol nonetheless, the queen of Cambodia, Norodom Rattana Devi has announced emergency elections in order to choose a successor from this power gap.

The elections of 2028

The first election was of the National Assembly:

• Cambodia People's Party, led by Heng Sokhom, won 82 seats.
• FUNCINPEC Party, led by Chhoub Sopheaktra, won 32 seats.
• KEDP Party, led by Mao Puthyrith, won 9 seats.

The second election to follow was the Senate:

• Cambodia People's Party, led by Ho Rothana, won 58 seats.
• 4 other seats were appointed by the Queen and the National Assembly.

The last election to follow was the election of the Prime Minister of Cambodia:

• Saluk Samrin, CPP, 62.8% of votes.
• Khan Rangsei, FUNCINPEC, 23.4% of votes.
• Mak Sothiya, KEDP, 13.8% of votes.

It was no surprise to anyone that the CPP would win once more; now with Hun Sen's chosen successor, Saluk Samrin, a 52-year old politician with a history of violence in the ranks of the Cambodia People's Party and many claims of corruption tacked to his name, only time will show if he truly is another corrupt official of power or if he shall reform Cambodia.
