Belgium's military has a literal language barrier. With a 60/40 split between Dutch and French-speaking members of the armed forces, there have been issues for decades with the organization between the languages, and it makes the military essentially two disconnected forces. While Belgium realizes a fix to this will take years, if not decades, new requirements are being implemented to transition the military to a "French First" fighting force. This, in practice, means that current server members will take courses in French 3 times per week in order to learn the basics and military-related terms. As well as this, new servicemembers will at least need to know French as a second language and will be quizzed on their knowledge upon entering the service. With this will come the integration of formerly separate parts of the service, but this will come later. For now, the focus is on upping the knowledge of French and replenishing our current force.
