With the popularity of Korean culture and the dropping birth rates the country is facing, President Yoon has decided to adopt a far more liberal approach to immigration. Forming the Ministry of Immigration, the goal of the office is the promotion of Korea as a destination for immigrants while also managing the immigration process to ensure those who are gaining visas and/or citizenship will be contributing members of society. While we will be far less stringent than Japan, we must ensure our immigrant population can co-exist and integrate properly into society. While proof of employment and a deep background screening will be what is needed for a work visa, periodic check-in will be conducted during the duration of the work visa. Interviews will be required upon renewal of the work visas, and if the person on work visa is fired, they have 2 months to find employment before being deported. They will also be required to report on the progress in finding new employment during those 2 months on a weekly basis.
One can also gain citizenship over the course of 5 years or upon marriage with a Korean citizen. If a person wishes to obtain citizenship, they must declare it, which will begin the 5 year timer. In this process, the person is establishing residency, demonstrating themselves as a contributor to society, and proving themselves integrating into Korean society. With periodic check-ins and interviews, it will help us make sure the person is someone we want as a citizen of the country.
