November 2023, Assimi Goïta Junta

Following the commencement of Operation Green Citadel and the illegal invasion of Niger by the western puppet-states there has been a resurgence of active rebel groups within the Republic of Mali. While Mali has had a problem with rebel groups since 2012 and the Tuareg unrest in the North they had mainly been either Azawad secessionists or Islamic Terrorists. These new rebel groups have largely been formed from rambunctious tribes and ethnic groups who all profess an ideology of Anti-ECOWASism and Anti-Westernism. The rebel groups seem to have mainly formed from either tribal defense militias and/or splitters from a number of Azawad secessionists, there also has been small-scale desertions from the Malian Army in the more rural areas who have seemingly joined up with the Anti-Western militias.

The Police Nationale du Mali through their investigations have identified three main new rebel groups within the Southern Regions of Mali:

The National Union for the Total Independence of Africa (L'Union Nationale pour l'Indépendance Totale de l'Afrique)

The UNITA is the largest of the newly formed rebel groups in Mali. They draw most of their manpower from tribal militias and from ex-Malian Armed Forces personnel. UNITA is also the most coherent of the rebel groups with a somewhat firm structure and established hierarchies which is currently headed by ex-Captain Etienne Toloba.

UNITA has a manpower potential of: 500 Rebels ~

The Malian People's Congress (Le Congrès du Peuple Malien)

The CPM is the second biggest of the recently formed rebel groups. The CPM draw most of their manpower from regional urban areas that have borne the brunt of the Islamic Terror insurgency in Mali. Due to this, they are the most war-hardened of the groups but also the ones with the highest chance of war crimes due to the violence and depravity that they've encountered. Unfortunately, the CPM seems to be funded by drug-runners within Mali and thus the Police have simultaneously declared them rebels and drug smugglers. The leader of the CPM is unknown, but many suspect it's known drug runner Bassirou Tigana.

CPM has a manpower potential of: 320 Rebels ~

The Freedom from Western Bandits Alliance (L’Alliance pour la Libération des Bandits Occidentaux)

The ALBO are the smallest of the three new rebel groupings. The ALBO draw most of their manpower from Azawad secessionists and are the only Arabic speaking rebel group that has pulled away from the Tuareg unrest in the North. As the ALBO are Tuaregs predominantly they have no alignment to any of the other rebels even though they profess a similar ideology. The leader of ALBO is a rather unknown Azawad secessionist known as Aqqasen Ag Ihemma.

ALBO has a manpower potential of: 150 Rebels ~

While these rebel groups are technically against the Malian government, they've been considered as a lesser evil and thus have received arms and ammunition from the Republic. The rebel groups have also been directed to head to the border of Mali and the Ivory Coast wherein they will be allowed free reign. Many consider this a bad idea. Too bad Colonel Goita simply does not care.
