Syria is in a state of civil conflict. The forces of the Government are slowly approaching victory, but a final resolution of the Syrian civil war which began in 2011 will only begin new challenges for the Assad regime. The government will need to not only rebuild the nation and its economy, but also redefine and modernize itself. It is my intention to chart through the pathway of diplomatic normalization with the Arab League, a complex relationship with Russia and a new emerging friendship with the PRC. All the while working on trying to reopen relations with Europe and restart the economy.
The Regime's stability has been rocked by the need for new militia's, granting foreign paramilitaries and sectarian groups unheard of power. Reestablishing a monopoly on violence and recreating a viable and centralized SAA will be of utmost priority.
But the question remains if Assad can navigate these challenges and survive, especially as his Russians benefactors become embroiled in a major war in Europe and their support wanes.
