Does a background investigation trigger GE to be revoked?

I am wondering if a background investigation will trigger a GE to be revoked? I recently accepted a government job that requires a clearance and a couple days after accepting it. I get a notice that my membership got revoked.
I haven't had any travel since I was granted GE (domestic or internationally) and I don't have any court orders or lawsuits pending at all. I know I can submit for a FOIA request but I know that will lead to no where and left questioning what actually happened.
