I havenāt gotten to any point where I could talk about Qunari lore since it hasnāt come up yet. As a mage Qunari Lord of Fortune, only the Lord of Fortune part has come up. It does seem like your faction is a bigger determinant of comments than anything so far (or at least it is as a Qunari in the beginning, dunno if other races wouldāve gotten something special at this point).
Itās pretty clear that Rook likely doesnāt follow the Qun based on vibes, but whether theyāre Vasoth or Tal-Vasoth (spelling?) or a choice you can make hasnāt come up yet. In general Rookās lack of Qunari culture hasnāt been a talking point so far.
I havenāt met Taash yet, so I donāt know if thatāll change things.
I am a bit annoyed at the lack of racial last names because only after starting the game did I realize my very Qunari first name sounded dumb as fuck with the last name.
Iām not quite sure what you mean by build, theyāre still tall. The fact that the CC has a height slider might mean that Rookās height as a Qunari isnāt special per se but at 80% height my Rook is still taller than humans. Body customization is pretty thorough so you can be bulky or slim.
So far as a whole the game seems very fast paced! Theyāre definitely cramming in a lot to try to get DA and non-DA fans to follow the story. As a fan I do feel like so far there hasnāt been room to breathe, like theyāre afraid of boring new players with long winded tie backs to DAI. Totally new material is much slower by comparison. Iām hoping that balances out once everything is established!
Combat is pretty fluid but Iām still adjusting to it since Iām used to tactical. Environments are pretty and map design is better than DAI.
Fr though the physics are awesome. I didnāt choose a long/flowy hairstyle but even with the braids I love watching them move. Iām glad options for long hair that isnāt tied back is finally an option.
Wow, thanks! I appreciate the compliment.
I had my heart set on elf for so long but honestly all my attempts at human-faced characters just seemed so off (I am so sorry to my Inky whoās triumphant return is not going to live up to her legacy - my rendition of her looks like she got plastic surgeryā¦), Iām pretty happy with how the Qunari turned out though!
I legit put so much thought into the name. Since my character is a mage I thought about how she wouldāve been Saarebas. (Iām not sure if itāll play out well since maybe sheāll be Vashoth and blow this theory to hell) I figured she couldāve been Tal-Vashoth from a young age if she left when her powers manifested. Meraas means ānothingā and I thought that would be a cool name for her to choose for herself to take ownership of who she was, reject roles and reject the Saarebas label. It was poetic and all that. But would also make sense for taking on the nickname Rook as a true name.
And then I get in the game and Iām like āoh right her last name is Laidirā. The random 2 dialects in her name bugs the shit out of me.
At least itās not as bad as that meme of the guy who named his Inky Adaar Adaar.
But yeah, gamebros definitely exaggerated the issue. Qunari arenāt as badass as they were in DA2 but DAI started the trend of making them more human already 10 years ago. They havenāt been as tough looking for a long time now. Since the CC is super customizable itās possible to have a skinny short 5head Qunari but nothing is making you do that.

Trust me, it's very easy to make them look stupid! I was surprised with my result. They definitely don't have the same quality variety of options that the other races do - there's only a few complexions and hairstyles that don't look dumb. But yeah, its totally possible! I just have a feeling most Qunari are going to end up choosing the same few options in different categories (kinda like how in Inquisition you had to filter out the 50 shades of bald to make a good looking fem character, in Veilguard you have to filter out the 50 shades of 5head).
The biggest thing is choosing the right complexion - a lot of the complexions make the skin tone go right up to where the horns (as in, the actual model you can choose the shape of) start and it looks really weird. Only a few actually have the horns shade in darker towards the forehead. Definitely a strange design choice!
I'm glad you like her! Good luck finishing work. I had to wait ages for the game to download so I know the feeling.
