I talked about how I find games that sexualise children upsetting as someone with PTSD from being sexually abused as a child and the mods said that was stereotyping to say how a bunch of anime stuff have sexualised younger characters and how fans of this stuff talk about these characters is triggering and upsetting. I feel so hurt. I don’t understand. The response they gave also didn’t explain stuff they just posted a meme and I don’t get it. I don’t know if it’s because of my asd or if it makes sense to other people but I wanna cry.
Because it’s almost unavoidable if you consume any media (I misquoted the person above - not sure why my brain skipped over unavoidable). If something is hard to avoid it means it’s prevalent enough to be an issue.
These types of things exist in any country but they should be designated to dark corners you have to seek out, the fact that mainstream stuff can sexualize children is hugely problematic. You can’t stop that shit from being made but if the country/culture/subgroup celebrates it that’s definitely a problem. To be clear, pretty much every culture or country can have problems. We need to acknowledge them in order to start addressing it.
Books aren’t really relevant because having these issues insidious to visual media/artistic renderings is still problematic on its own. “I’m going to stick with only ever reading books” as a solution falls under “hard to avoid”.
(I will clarify that obviously this varies by country since obviously Asian countries aren’t monolithic.)

“Almost any media” highlights how prolific/insidious it is without generalizing. The fact is that in anime/manga/jrpgs it’s common enough and reaches mainstream enough that it isn’t a one off issue but is very much a cultural issue (and it’s ok to point this out, everywhere has cultural issues that should be addressed). That’s fair to say and doesn’t generalize.
