MMO Decision Paralysis - Guild Wars 2 or Final Fantasy XIV?
Post Body

As the title suggests I'm considering getting back into an MMO but I'm torn between two options - Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV.

My MMO playing history is just Everquest 2. I played it when it came out and I was a teenager and then again as an adult on two of the TLE servers. I debated going back for their lore only server to just run around Norrath but I know that wouldn't last long and I BADLY need something to occupy me right now. I was a healer and support main that dabbled in some DPS depending on how dedicated I was and I imagine playing the same types of classes on another MMO. As an adult I found EQ2 to be super safe for women and that women made up a decent amount of the population.

I'm looking for similar vibes if I can - I want to be able to unmute without much fear. I've played Final Fantasy 7-12 so I have familiarity with the lore type of those worlds but I also know Guild Wars 2 is quite beloved. I did also appreciate the crafting and gathering system of EQ2 - particularly since I have chronic migraines and some of those chores I can do during an attack so bonus if either game has something similar!

Anyone playing either that might be able to weigh in? These are also both older games so wondering which might be easier to find at least a somewhat active community. Ability to eventually catch up is important as well but I don't expect to be running around at top gear and level for a while. I also need to be able to find a community willing to teach a newbie.
