Thereās many examples of this so Iām sure Iāll miss a few, but I just started to realize this today.
Iām rewatching GG for the 20 millionth time in my life, and the episode āThe Deer Huntersā really made me realize that Lorelai isnāt mature enough to have a teenager in private school.
Right off the bat, during the pilot she didnāt wake up in time for Roryās first day. Sure, you could call it some fluke but Lorelai is notoriously late for things so I think it speaks more to her immaturity.
The episode Iām watching now is filled with cringe moments. When Rory is trying to study, Lorelai goes on and on about wanting ice cream, until Rory finally has to make some deal with her about shopping over the weekend, and even then Rory STILL has to leave the room. I know that Lorelai wasnāt aware yet about the D paper that Rory got, but she clearly knows that this is a much harder school and that Rory needs more time for school work.
Later on in this episode, sheās late to the parent teacher meeting with Mr. Medina and makes a scene about it instead of just quietly entering the room and finding a seat so as not to interrupt. Max handles it very tactfully but that part always makes me cringe.
And finally when Lorelai and Rory are up all night studying, as a mom she should have made sure that they both got enough sleep. I know Rory is a teenager but often times I think Lorelai doesnāt play the mom card enough. Itās awesome that she got so involved with helping her study, but she really should have pushed for them to go to bed so the dreaded morning wouldnāt happen. Again, late waking up.
Thereās quite a few times when Lorelai complains about the pressure the school puts on students and parents. I donāt think itās so ridiculous to think that a school like Chilton would want more parent involvement. Even public schools try pretty hard to get parents involved. These are just some examples, but I truly believe Lorelai had no idea what SHE was getting into by putting Rory in Chilton.
