I love Lorelai; she’s majorly flawed and sometimes overbearing, but she’s strong and independent and I always admire that about her character. Most of the time, she hides her emotions behind that “strength” and hardly ever do we see her really break down.
The scene in season 5 when Lorelai and Luke break up and Lorelai loses it for the first time always brings me to tears. Just watching her realize how much she actually wanted to be with Luke and hearing her admit (for what it always felt to me like the first time) that her own actions lead her to this break up makes all that anger I have for her go away because she is so pitiful in that moment. It’s the first time we really see a ‘broken’ Lorelai, and I think it’s brilliant, especially after she leaves the message for Luke and we see her switch back to her ‘tough’ persona when meeting him again. It’s a wonderful jarring of character and the moment I think so many of us can relate to the most.
