It's been a long time since I've done a request for another game! It was 2019 in fact. And it's been more than two years since winning a game via the subreddit. But I really want to play this, so I'll give it a shot.
I'm here to throw my hat in and give requesting Evil Genius 2 a try! It's not on sale on Steam currently, but GreenManGaming has it at 22% off. It's a legitimate authorised retailer.
Eden the Evil Genius
I'll start off by telling you about my journey with Evil Genius. I'm not brilliant at showing hype for a game, so I hope this helps convey my enthusiasm.
Back in the day, sometime between 2004 and 2008, I was pretty obsessed with Evil Genius. I spent hours tweaking bases. Fighting the forces of justice, by building more and more elaborate trap systems. And just screwing around by making enemies loop into an endless circle of wind tunnels. I probably put a good hundred hours into it back then.
As part of this, I signed up for Evil Genius forums and all. Here's one example in 2008. I learned new techniques and saw other people's evil lair ideas there.
Skip ahead some years. I moved abroad temporarily. Sadly a very large number of my games 'went missing' somewhere between where I stored them with my family, the mover's van and their new home. In other words, either they were lost which would be unlikely or the movers stole nearly my entire collection of PS1, PS2, PS3 and Gamecube games, along with my physical copy of Evil Genius. Whatever the case, I had no more Evil Genius.
Skip ahead to 2014. I loved this game and wanted to play again, so I bought another copy. For Steam this time. I miss having a physical copy to display, but I can still play it. I played it a decent amount, but could never get the mods working right on Steam.
Skip ahead for 2017. Evil Genius 2 was announced. I was interested enough that I was already on their mailing list, so I heard right off.
Of course I signed up for Evil Genius 2 specific news in 2019 and put it on my wishlist in 2019 as soon as it went live on the Steam Store. Top of the wishlist too of course.
Since I enjoyed the game so much, I've even got a special bit of merch. This metal Evil Genius 2 badge I was given from one of their staff. Apparently it's not for sale.
I'm mostly waiting for Evil Genius 2, but last year I couldn't wait and played a bit more of the original.
Even a few months ago, I was talking here and mentioned that it's an upcoming game I'm excited for.
So I've got a pretty long history with the prequel of the game. You can see I've played it at different times between 2008 (or before) and 2020. And today, the sequel I've been waiting for has finally come out. I'm obviously predisposed to liking it, but reviews have also been raving how good it is too.
Why Can't You Get It?
I'll avoid any sob stories, but the question comes up. I've got a good amount of games. I've got a job. Why can't I get it myself?
Simple version is - the vast majority of my games were bought when I had a much better job than now or were given in exchange for beta testing/reviewing. I work for the public sector so I don't earn much. I've got sick cats that need special food, have had large vet expenses, a roof I had to have repaired not long back and all sorts of other things. My job also isn't secure. It's a case of just having real life stuff to deal with.
What Would You Do If You Are Gifted?
Conquer the world in the name of the gifter of course! I've been hoping to play around with the trap system again and explore all of these.
I'd also be able to chat about the game with my friend more in-depth. He recently got it. We used to play the original together as kids.
On starting, I'd play as Max - the classic Evil Genius. My base would be built so the forces of justice would rue the day they tried to invade and my schemes would reach across the globe. I would recruit the best henchman for this too.
After the first playthrough, I'd like to try with Red Ivan. He's been promoted from a henchmen in the last game to an Evil Genius himself. The other ones will be played as too.
I'll hope that you consider my request or have had an interesting time reading it.
