Intro
Hello /r/GiftofGames! /u/XYZGiveaways has kindly sent me another €60 via Paypal to spend on the community here. That's approximately £53 or $70 USD.
Want a €60 game? There's a chance, but unless your request is amazing and absolutely blows me away, it's not happening. Want a €30 game? Your request still has to be really good. Want a €5 game? You'll have to convince me, but it shouldn't be too hard, as long as you've not got a bad record, there are still funds left and I can see enthusiasm.
If you don't win this round, you're welcome to enter any future rounds too.
What Can I Get?
Games for any platform that I can either purchase the game for or purchase a gift card for. Digital or physical are fine. DLC is fine, but keep in mind my choosing criteria.
Hardware/Accessories - Keep the budget in mind! Need to replace a broken PS4 controller? Ask for a cheaper third-party one and you've more chance of success. It has to be easy for me to buy too. As these are pricey, you'll have to be pretty convincing.
Note: I cannot buy games from GOG.com due to their restrictions. I can get my hands on gift cards for consoles, but not for all countries, so there may be some workarounds needed there.
How do I enter?
- Convince me that you want the game.
- Include the relevant Steam/other relevant profile link
- Mention which region you live in/your account is for.
- Tell me how much it will cost. Bonus points if you've found it cheap on a legit (non-grey market) site. We do not speak of G2Å.
Doing all of these in a structured way helps me. People who make my life easier in this way may have a slight advantage in winning.
How will I choose?
First off, feel free to upvote entries you like, but the points don't matter. I'll be choosing based on my own criteria. I read all entries too, so downvoting won't help you.
To convince me, writing a good request is the most common way. Tips on that are linked in the sidebar.
Writing a good request isn't the only way though. Have you shown that you want the game in other ways? I know not everyone is equally good at writing, so leaving this open. Before I gifted someone with one of the worst requests, but they'd played several other games in the series extensively and had proof of such.
Here are my personal thoughts:
Do I feel that you really want this game? How have you shown that?
Continuing that - do I feel you'll play the game? Or will it languish in the backlog. Conversely, can I see that you've played several similar games a lot?
Are you going to get a lot of enjoyment out of this? Value for money helps here too.
If your chosen prize is physical, try to make life easy for me. Tell me how I can get it to you without sending you money. If you're in the US/UK and it's on Amazon, then it's easy. If you're in South Korea and it's on a website that only lets people with a national identity number can order from, then not so much.
What stops you from winning?
DMing me. If you can't comment, you can't enter.
The winner will not be based on your personal circumstances. I may even deduct points for sob stories.
If I see you've not played previous games gifted, that's a very bad sign.
Choosing something expensive won't definitely stop you from winning, but it'll definitely lower your chances. If one person wants Star Wars Squadrons while seven people want Among Us, you'll have some convincing to do.
Note
I have tags next to a bunch of your names like this. A lot of entrants fall into this sort of category, but I have positive tags next to a bunch of people too like 'always seems to play won games a lot'. If you're not winning, a negative tag might be why or it might just be bad luck or issues with the request/price of the game. Still, it's important to make sure you've actually played won games before asking for more. That's the big one.
Am I on the negative list?
Are you breaking the rules or not playing games won much? Then maybe. The exact details of what I look at are hidden to stop people trying to cheat.
Time Limit
To be decided based on the amount/rate of entries.
Final Reminder
Read through the above, but one of the most important things to keep in mind - choose your request wisely. Is something cheap? Is it in a bundle currently? Is it on sale? The more expensive your request is, the higher the bar is.
Is There Any Deal is a useful tool to look at game prices with. /r/GameDeals is great too. If it's cheap in your region on Steam and not on a sale that ends soon, we can work with that.
If you've entered one of the previous offers - if you didn't win, there might be a reason. Some people would've been gifted if there was enough budget or the other requests weren't so good that day, but some weren't convincing, some hadn't played previous gifts, some were asking for something expensive, etc.
