Sup all, we've all seen the second rule: Non-private Steam ID and/or other account(s) required and the second sub-rule which states that in order to qualify for this sub is to have either 3-non free games or an account valued $50 . We are replacing that rule for a new one:
"You must have at least achieved level 2 on the Steam platform, to receive Steam games here."
You might ask yourself, but gog team, why?
Well mainly because this rule was vague and wasn't really fair so to say. According to the rule one could either buy an AAA game or spend €0.33 to get this as an example. Another thing which made things harder and harder to moderate both for us and the gifters is the amount of free games. Which game is free? How long do you have to search to find out? Ect ect.
Okay so the rule didn't work well, why level 2 on steam then?
First and foremost, since that's the easiest way to see whether someone qualifies. Second, by the standard set by the previous rule you had to spend some moeny, since you had to own 3 non-free games and they shouldn't be free. By making the minimum level 2 you're forced to spend at least €5 to "activate" your steam account and earn some other xp while you're at it(multiple possible ways to get it). So essentially both come down to the same. Buy some games to show you're "legit".
But Saadie, what are the cons?
After thinking a lot about the cons the biggest is probably that some users might not be...financially stable. And thus most likely won't qualify for this rule since they will not be in a position to activate their Steam account. Most would say that they have zero disposable income. My first response would be that even in the previous rule they would then have zero chance of qualifiying and that things haven't changed so much. Second, I believe that where there is a will, there is a way. Your reddit account has to exist for two months to come here. If we, hypothetically, said the same for the Steam account it would mean that you had to gather €2.50 for two months each month. If you can't gather the €2.50 in two months but you could have gathered €0.33 at the moment you found this sub you might not belong here but rather on another sub.
If you've any questions or suggestions or other things feel free to say so in the comments.
