Hello people of GoG!
As most of us know, this sub is one of the most generous and giving places on reddit. Just over the past few weeks, including our recent giveaway celebrating our 30,000 subscriber milestone, we've collectively gifted thousands of dollars worth of games ranging from small Indie games to big AAA titles.
Lately I've been toying with the idea of expanding my gifting circle on reddit and offering to help out a needy family over at /r/RandomActsofChristmas. Previously, the RandomActsofMakeup sub extended an offer to 'adopt' a family in need and the SnackExchange sub recently put a similar call out to their members.
I would like to see if there is any interest among the gifters here at GiftofGames to come together and make some kid's Christmas spectacular. If we have enough interest, I'd like to let our gifting powers combine to coordinate an awesome gifting to a lucky kid on /r/RandomActsofChristmas on behalf of /r/GiftofGames.
I know this is pretty short notice since its only 3 weeks till Christmas, plus we have our own events coming up (mainly our first annual Secret Santa exchange, so I realize this will not be a possibility for everyone since many people will have their funds reserved for that event and the (rumored) Steam Holiday Sale.
At this stage, this only a discussion. I have no plans to make any offers until we've gauged interest from our gifters and discussed our selection criteria, and even then it may not happen due to our prior gifting commitments to GiftofGames. If we were to go ahead, obviously we would apply our usual minimum karma/account age requirements in addition to our other predetermined selection/exclusion criteria.
As with all gifting subs (including our own), we must be mindful that there are scammers out there who will try to take advantage of peoples' generosity. GiftofGames has many safeguards in place to reduce the likelihood of scammers (I believe this is one of the reasons why gifters are comfortable giving here and why we have such a high rate of request fulfillment all year round), however other subs have less stringent rules and we need to be vigilant and thorough with our checks when giving outside of GoG. For me, the protection of our gifters is of the utmost importance so I intend to apply the same (if not more) scrutiny that we apply to requesters here. This year /r/RandomActsofChristmas has 2 tiers of registration, regular 'registered' and 'Registered Plus'. Their Registered Plus verification form requires a lot of proof to be submitted by requesters, which is a great initiative to weed out potential scammers.
If anyone else is interested please reply here or send me a PM to discuss. :)
NOTE: RAoC gifting is primarily done via an Amazon wishlist, so you'd need to be comfortable gifting via Amazon.
EDIT: For those who have expressed interest, I've sent directions to our secret lair of gift planning so we can maintain some element of surprise and have a more in-depth discussion of how we plan to organize this. If anyone is interested (remember, this is NOT a commitment on your part) and did not receive a message please let me know!
