Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.

The Fallout series is one of the most loved and played open world games, and therefore it is only fitting that I start this request by sharing my love for open world games.

It all began with The GTA games for me. As a teenager there were two games that I played on the console: Halo and GTA: San Andreas. Me and my friends spent many days and nights taking turns playing San Andreas with a little Halo in between. This was my first encounter with open-world games and it really spoke to me more than any other type of game.

A couple years later news about Minecraft started popping up. I looked it up on Youtube and watched a let's play series by a guy called davidr64yt that had me hooked for a long time. At the time my computer was not good enough to play demanding games so I was satisfied watching videos for a long time. Minecraft really took open-world to the next level. This time you could directly build the world in which you existed and affect it in ways you never could before. As good as games like GTA is, you are still bound by the fact that the world around you were created by someone else, for you. In Minecraft you get to play god, which was fun to say the least. It got even better when multiplayer came out. Dear god, you could experience your world together with friends and visit others!

Other games in the same genre worth mentioning are Mass Effect, Just Cause 2, Far Cry 3, Arma III, DayZ (only watched, never played it) and of course the Fallout games, which I will come to shortly.

The feeling of accomplishment you get by these type of games is really unmatched. It is by far my favorite genre.

What happens in Vegas...

I had heard a lot about this game before I started playing it early this year, and at first it did not appeal to me. However, I went back and "forced" myself to play through the beginning and I began to enjoy it more and more.

It did not take long for me to start enjoying it. Now, the story in New Vegas is a interesting one because is no good or bad sides. After all, this is a post-apocalyptic game and everyone that's left is a survivor by all right, doing their best in the desert, dangerous wasteland. I respect that, and I made sure I talked to every creature I ran into. Most people had something to say; a story worth telling, and remembering. Even after playing through the main story I can tell you that there is no right way to go, only the path you choose.

One (of many) cool things about Fallout: New Vegas are the different factions. As with the individual people, they also have a story, something to explain their survival. Even the "raiders" in the game aren't just dumb grunts, which is nice for a change. I always found it hard to believe that some people are genuinely evil, even in the real world most people do what they think is right. One of the interesting things for me about the post-apocalyptic world in Fallout isn't the fact that terrible things happened which made it a desert wasteland, but the fact that the world is still very much alive, operating in strange ways with all kind of unique factions. The people in this world are survivors and are doing the best they can.

There is a main quest in this game but after playing through the game once I didn't find it too interesting. Instead, I looked elsewhere because I knew there was more to this world then what meets the eye. The DLC adds even more story and quests, which is nice. The only negative thing is that you cannot finish the main story if you want to continue playing, which I found odd.

If you talk about Fallout you need to have a sentence or two about music. The music is also great, and a really important part of the game. Good soundtracks are just as important in games as they are in movies and Obsidian really hit the nail on the head here. I don't know about you but I love that old 40s, 50s, 60s music. The graphics aren't too great, but it's good enough. You can enchant them with mods but I did not care for that. Speaking of mods, there are LOTS for Fallout 3 and NV. I'm not too fond of mods myself but just know that you can add, change or remove a lot of things to make this game even better!

All in all, Fallout: New Vegas truly was a enjoyable experience. I'm happy to say that I haven't uncovered all of its secrets but I intend to go back to this game some time.

P.S. Pick up a companion or two. I'm kind of a lone wolf myself but I couldn't help but enjoy sharing the fun!

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.

Alright.. so here we are. That game everyone is hyped for is soon here. Fallout 4. I have watched the teasers and the trailers and it is shaping up to be a wonderful game. The reviews are out as I'm writing this and I'm glad to say it seems to be very highly rated! Sure, there's a couple of bugs here but nothing that time can't sort out!

One of the exciting new features is that you apparently can construct buildings and items yourself! I'm not sure how it will play out but it does sound interesting and might change the way you play and experience Fallout. The protagonist is also voiced this time which is.. interesting. I did like the way it worked in Mass Effect but at the same time I didn't complain about the lack of voice in New Vegas. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will work!

It would be awesome to play this as soon as its out, to get that feeling of being one of the first to explore new lands. My reasoning here is that I want to enter this new world without any previous knowledge or spoilers. All I know is that Fallout 4 has a lot to offer and that it's shaping up to be a great feast. There is something special about the Fallout universe that makes me unable to defend myself against it. I love the retro futuristic design placed in a world haunted by the horrors of nuclear war.

Why me?

I have played a Fallout game before and I loved it. That means I know what I'm getting myself into and that I WILL play this game and give it a real chance. A lot of people will buy this game because of the hype, even though they haven't played any previous Fallout game. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but still.

I currently live at home as a student and I can't afford spending that kind of money on games. I might buy a game on sale here and then for a couple dollars but I haven't bought a AAA game at release for.. years? I would never ask for this unless I really wanted it. It is selfish, but I can't tell you how excited I am for this game.

I am not the best writer but I hope I captured my love for open world games and Fallout in this request. There is a lot of people out there that want to play Fallout 4, and I am no different. With a little luck I might have a chance.. we will see!
