The game that I am requesting: http://store.steampowered.com/app/392470
I am a fan of Koei's grand strategy games, but the games that I have played have always been from the Romance of the Three Kingdom's franchise due to my familiarity of the historical novel. However, I've had developed a curiosity in Japan's Sengoku period ever since playing Warriors Orochi (Koei's hack-and-slash crossover of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors). I would like to request for Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence as it is the first game of the franchise with english localization on Steam. The game has various scenarios of the main historical moments of the era and special "historical events" that will trigger if the historical conditions are met (which I assume to be usually soon after the selected scenario for obvious reasons).
From the reviews that I have read of the game, they all seem to agree that the game is fairly difficult for a beginner to get into due to the numerous amount of information that needs to be processed by the player in order to understand the mechanics of the game. Not to mention that they are fairly lacking in details of the exact mechanics. If they are similar to that of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms franchise, then I can understand: the game would have a lot of minor aspects that seem to be unimportant by itself but is actually vital in order to build and maintain the strength of your realm. It is not something that can be easily explained in detail for someone that has never played a game of the franchise and an explanation is unnecessary for those that have experience with the franchise. I believe that the similarities that the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games (I have personally played installments III, V, VIII, and XI) would have to this one would make learning and understanding the majority of the gameplay mechanics in Sphere of Influence to be easy enough. They both feature the whole base-building, economic, military, and officer management in a monthly turn-based format.
The only noticeable difference that I could see between Sphere of Influence and Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI is the combat. It appears to be similar to that of (Creative Assembly's) Total War franchise in that while you could let the battles be resolved automatically, it is possible to get better results if you choose to direct the battles yourself via real-time. I have played a couple of Total War games (Rome: Total War and Empire: Total War), and while I enjoyed the RTS aspects of directing battles, the games seem to be designed solely for that purposely and everything else felt hollow. Given that Koei's Romance of the Three Kingdoms franchise has always been more focused on realm management than battles in terms of player-time consumed, I think that it would be similar for Sphere of Influence as well - while being able to direct battles will be an advantage, getting the logistics of war correct would require the greater focus from the player.
