Introduction
Hoo boy, ever since I was gifted New Vegas. I've been obsessed with the Post-Post-Apocalyptic Genre (Clocked in 100 Hours just recently. That counts as obsessed right?), looking at how civilization stopped bitching how "Woe is them" and managed to pick itself up again after the worst has come. It's always interesting to see how people from the future use today's culture to create their own.
What is Wasteland 2?
Wasteland 2 is another game that picks up the Post-Post-Apocalypse Mantle, it's director is Brian Fargo, who is one of the captain of this genre on the video game side of things. He also directed the first Wasteland. One of its designers (Who really got me interested on it) is Chris Avellone, he's one of the main men responsible for New Vegas (My favorite game of all time if it's not yet obvious) and a number of great CRPGS (Including, but not limited to Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights)
Wasteland 2 takes place in an alternate history in which a nuclear holocaust took place in 1998 (Which coincidentally, is the year of my birth :happy_creep: ) unlike Fallout, there aren't any 40s or 50s Era Influence on how things are in the present and unlike the last two Fallouts, combat is turnbased gridbased with squad mechanics. It allows you to make either a squad of 4 or 3 or 2 or just an army of 1. What I really liked is how intricate and customizable literally almost every single aspect of your character is, and how you can create more than one. Not only that, but you can also recruit more squad members as you go through. From the gameplay videos I've seen, there are tons of skill checks for exploration (Which really makes how you build a character really important) and alternate branching paths (In which if you managed to screw up building your character or just want to do things differently)
Why do I want this game gifted to me?
Like I said, I've been addicted to the Post-Post-Apocalyptic Genre for a while. The Squad Based Tactical Turn Based Grid Combat reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics (Which is in my opinion, the best Final Fantasy on the PSOne.... well maybe somewhere near 9 mainly because I haven't played 9 fully yet), not only that but one of the curator recommendations says that YOU CAN PUNCH SOMEONE SO HARD THEY EXPLODE. Plus I really like games that allow you to roleplay your character in various events and decisions and to fully decide what their skills and downfalls are (Something I really liked in New Vegas), not only that but you can make 4 OF THEM. Something I really wanted in New Vegas, creating more than just one person really expands what you can do in the game and how these characters play off each other is very interesting.
But wait, aren't I still enjoying New Vegas? I'm gonna be brutally honest. I think I'm enjoying it too much. Every day I delete some mods because I've been crashing a lot lately then I immediately download more mods because I feel like maybe this time the game won't crash on me. And it doesn't, till I decide that "Huh, I really don't use this mod much, I'm gonna uninstall it" then install a crapton of new mods which does crash on me. Not only that but Wasteland 2 will really solve my dilemma on what kind of character I should create since I can make multiple characters in it.
Honestly, I'd buy it myself if there was a much nearer retailer of Steam Wallet Cards but my parents don't give allowances or spending money wily nily during school breaks and the trip alone would take like a fraction of the price of the game (Converting to our prices, which I'm pretty sure is different from ROW prices it's around $20, a cab ride there is $5, my parents don't trust to give me anymore than $2 every week)
