This is without a doubt the most amazing thing that I have ever gotten. Period. (To everyone who has ever gifted me here. I am sorry. You are all amazing people and your gifts were amazing. But I feel /u/MajorBen1997 deserves the spotlight for this one.)
When I first clicked the link to his giveaway I was really excited. "A chance to get a console??? DAMN!" But reading the "requirements" I found myself reading a sad request within his giveaway. He had been feeling down that day and was reaching out to us, as a community, for help. He wasn't looking for high karma or account date. He just wanted someone to tell him why his life is precious and advice on his life.
At that time my biggest concern was not the giveaway but for the safety of this human on the other side of the computer/phone screen. For all I know we might live thousands of miles away or he could be my next door neighbor. However, no matter how far, he's still a human being. And when someone reaches out for help you try you do your best to get them on their feet as fast as possible.
I frantically typed my response and help to him on my phone (I was on the bus heading towards my campus). I walked into the class as I hit send. However, since I was on mobile I had no idea I was near 700 characters over the limit. So I spent about 15 mins revising it and erasing a lot of things I believed were not AS important.
I submitted and hoped to hear from him, or from anyone, that he was safe. I was a bit anxious all throughout class.
I tried to write about my personal experiences with depression and how it's affected my life. Depression has touched everyone's lives at least once and if it hasn't you're very lucky. I wrote somethings that I have only talked to with very close friends and my therapist. But for the time being his well being was in mind. However, near the end I lost focus and got greedy. I was still interested in the Xbox One. And I admit that it was really messed up for me to add that part.
I was surprised when he responded to my advice fairly fast saying that I had won. However, I was still a bit worried so I asked him if it was ok if we still talked a bit.
Today, I gave him my address and he sent me a screenshot with proof that he sent it. (Which I did not need because I trust him)
I'm super excited to be receiving this as a gift. It is the first console that I will own since the Wii. (which was a regrettable purchase. I was given the choice of Ps3, Xbox360, or the Wii. I chose the Wii. Not that it's a bad console, but I totally missed out on playing a lot of better games). It's going to be delivered next week and I'm pretty stoked. I probably won't be able to get Xbox Live or any games for a while, so it's just going to be a really pretty box. :( But once they introduce 360 compatibility I'm sure I can get some 360 games for cheap. I also look forward to picking up some high end "next gen" games that I can't run on my shitty laptop such as GTA V and Dying Light and exclusives like Halo. All when they go really cheap that is. haha.
But for the time being, this is an amazing gift and something I will remember for years to come. Maybe you'll see me here in a few weeks requesting a game (not any time soon because I feel this gift is amazing and it would really "ruin" the moment if I requested right after getting a gift of this caliber) I'm sure that once I get a job (or begging my friends and family during the holidays lol) I'll have a solid library and will enjoy the gift even more!
I hope you feel better Ben and just remember there's over 100 people just here alone that care for you man. You don't have to face anything alone! We're always going to be here waiting to help you fight against sadness and troubles! and if you ever need help just talk to us man! You saw all those people in your giveaway who said they didn't want
If there's anyone here who believes that they may have depression or just needs someone to talk to, I'm always, ALWAYS, open to talking to people and would really appreciate it if you PM'd me. We can talk for as long as you want (just pm's back and forth, phone calls, video chatting) and about whatever you want. Just remember that there's always someone willing to listen to you here. :)
Thanks again man, you bring a lot to this subreddit and community. I hope to see you here more often and you're always a pleasure to see around.
Have a nice day everyone and happy gaming!
