Hey. This is actually a retry but I didn't want to put that in the title because a while back there was a post saying how it felt a bit whiny (can't think of a good word) when people wrote how many time's they've requested in the title. So instead I'm going to say it here. It's my 4th time requesting this game and I think that it's important to know that because each time I've requested I've significantly gotten better and better.
Although it would be easier to just copy and paste my first request, I thought that it would not be cool/courteous of me to do so.
(Link to the first for curious people with too much time on their hands).
I am ashamed that for my third request I am copy and pasted the second one
and now the third one. (which I personally liked a lot)
Dark Souls is a game known for being notoriously hard. I had always known that but that was through word of mouth and the internet. I had never played the game but I had always known it was supposed to be extremely hard. A few months I was gifted Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (very fitting name) and I was very psyched about playing it. The game was beautiful but not too graphically intense for me to not be able to run it, the music is incredible and has a LOT of swelling orchestra pieces, the game was hard (I had to look up guides in the beginning because I kept dying), and it was an incredible experience overall. I've been playing it a bit more lately because I had forgotten how "fun" the game is, despite the difficulty. I have actually beaten the game once but it was with the help of a cheat/hack and it was on a pirated copy, which is why I'm trying to beat the game on Steam as a clean, nice person.
My cute adventure as a Beginner Undead: I was new to DarkSouls 1. Had never played it. Somehow I survived long enough to get to the second(?) boss. It was the Bridge Demon (Taurus). I was very frustrated with the boss.I had died and had to retry it about 15 times. He/it seemed impossible to kill. He had massive reach, massive size, and a massive fucking thing to hit you with. He also had this stupid jump attack that would bring you to 25% health. I was super sick of doing the same thing and dying so I decided to look up a Youtube video on how to beat the damn thing.
Ok.
So apparently there was a ladder behind you, that you would climb and drop attack him for massive damage.
Ok.
I never thought to look behind me.
This time I climb the ladder, kill the asshole archer skeleton zombies, and go to aggravate the demon.
Ok.
It works well. I aggravate him and get him to chase me to the ladder. I do that. And then.... The bitch jumps off the bridge...
Jump
off the bridge...
My introduction to the wonderful world of Darksouls.
(I was told that a section of my wonderful shudders time in Dark Souls 1 would be great, so here it is.)
Here's a picture of my current character, Sir PotatoKnight
My favorite NPC in the game! Siegmeyer!
Came across a walking hungry bush
Awwww everyone who wants me to get DSII:SotFS! The ugly one in the back is /u/zipeater
..................................
(These are all pictures from Dark Souls 1! I really enjoy this game just as much as I hope to enjoy Scholar of the First Sin)
I actually had to restart the game because I kept dying at the Bell Tower Gargoyles and realized I fucked up earlier (accidentally used the Firelord soul for souls instead of Estus upgrade) and because I was just putting all my stats into Strength.... ( I wanted to be muscular.... T.T ) So I restarted the game a few weeks ago and am happily grinding my way to the Bell Gargoyles again...
Why ask for Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin instead of regular Dark Souls II? Think of DSII:SotFS as an HD remake of DSII with more gameplay, smarter enemies, better multiplayer, and all the DLC's integrated into the game.
Gameplay: The devs decided that the game wasn't hard enough the first time so they decided "Fuck our fans, let's make the game harder." So they added stronger/smarter enemies, put good items in different places, doors that lead straight off a cliff, traps, and overall will make you regret ever being a fan of the series. Apparently the differences in gameplay between DSII and DSII:SotFS are very noticeable. From all the youtube videos I've seen of the game the enemies look scary as fuck... the combat is what most people like most about the Dark Souls series. You can play almost however you want. Archer? fine (but that's how you get ants) Mage Wizard? You do that. Dual weild axes? I guess?
Smarter Enemies: Another huge update on the gameplay was that enemies are smarter. In DSII:SotFS the enemies are smarter, meaning they won't just spam the same moves over and over again. The enemies will actually try their best to fuck you up and will vary their tactics and moves. If you come across an enemy that will parry and attack, the next time you come across him he might not parry at all and just do heavy attacks. They learn your weaknesses and learn your patterns and fuck shit up.
The lore: The lore in the Dark Souls universe is very intricate and beautiful. There are so many sad stories and so much betrayal. My favorite npc/story is Siegmeyer of Catarina. His armor is so passive looking and he kinda acts/looks dopey, but he is so damn optimistic about everything. SPOILER FOR DARKSOULS 1. His death is one of the saddest in the whole game and it made me pretty sad when I came across it.
Siegmeyer does not normally rely on others for help. Any semblance of his self-determination is drained as the player assists him in each new predicament he comes across. In an effort to regain his pride, Seigmeyer offers to help the player by sacrificing himself. Depending on the player's decision however, Siegmeyer will be robbed of his attempt again. With no more pride and resolve, Siegmeyer has nothing, and when Undead lose everything, they turn Hollow. He then proceeds to attack his daughter, Sieglinde, who defeats him. The player arrives too late to save him and witnesses Siegmeyer's daughter crying over his broken corpse.
He get's depressed everytime you help him... :(
Also his armor looks like a dumpling. :3
Better Multiplayer: Believe it or not. This is one of the biggest reasons I want this game. The multiplayer is very different from the traditional multiplayer. While most games have their multiplayer as a seperate gamemode, Dark Souls makes it so that the multiplayer is integrated into the singleplayer. You can either summon someone/be summoned by someone to help in a boss fight. You can also invade/be invaded. Invading is the DarkSouls version of PVP and it's fun but way more aggravating than the actual game sometimes. But it is so goddamn satisfying when an asshole invades your world, gets cocky, and you kick his ass. ( I have only been invaded 2 times.) However, the multiplayer in DS1 was... pretty bad... The formula was annoying and sometimes you would wait hours only for the summoning to fail. It was near impossible to play with friends because it was mostly random and you would need to wait a LONG time for a 2% chance of being able to play with friends.
Also I can carry /u/freedomtacos because he's really bad at the game and he begs me to help him. So with this game I can drop in and out helping the poor nub.
Better Graphics: (I copy and pasted only this part from my first request. I really like how I wrote it the first time and decided it was better to reuse just this one section) The Dark Souls games have always had amazing visuals and graphics. They had always used dynamic shadows very well too. However there were a few parts of Dark Souls II that were meh. I mean sure that flower is pretty but damn it does not look very well shaded. However in the SoTFS version they overhauled and improved the graphics to look so much better. Also believe it or not I can run Dark Souls II pretty well on this shitty laptop that I am currently forced to use for gaming. Fun fact. (Since GTA is on everyone's mind). One of the first games I bought with money during a Steam winter sale, was GTA IV:Complete Edition. I was super excited to play it but lo and behold I had forgotten that it was a really shitty console port with horrible optimization. The 89 minutes I have played on it are from me waiting for the game to load. I can run Dark Souls II on medium but can't even run GTA IV on the lowest. Darksouls>GTA IV.
Also, I was told that a HUGE complaint about Dark Souls II was how bad the lighting was. In DarkSouls 1 you would need a torch to navigate darker areas and it was spooky. However, apparently in Dark Souls II, you could play through the whole game without needing a single torch. BUT in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin there is a whole new place where it's just a pitch black cave.
I absolutely hate bloom in games so I'm most likely going to turn that off as soon as possible.
THE BADASS FUCKING MUSIC: Holy shit does the music in this game give me a metaphorical boner. They are all orchestra pieces. Even though I have never heard any of the Dark Souls 2 music in game, but I love listening to the OST on youtube. This is my favorite song from DSII. This song is powerfully emotional and you can tell that the composer loved writing this song and that it matches Sir Alonne's lore so well. It is the theme of one of the bosses (Sir Alonne) you have to fight. It is also not from the base game but from one of the 3 DSII DLCs. Each boss has a theme that reflects on their lore, which is amazing. Some have scary, harsh, crashing pieces Graverobber, Varg, and Cera , some bosses have majestic, royal, scary themes, Sihn the Slumbering Dragon , while others have scary, creepy, sad themes such as this one (for Aldia, the Scholar of the First Sin).
I have these really nice headphones that will allow me to get immersed within a game.
Speaking of DLCs... SotFS includes all available DLCs that are out for DSII. There are currently 3 DLCs out for DSII and each one adds so much lore and some amazing boss fights. I am most excited for the Sir Alonne fight in the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC because it is so goddamn epic.(and frustrating). SotFS includes all 3 DLCs. Doing the match I found out that:
Dark Souls II: Scholars of the First Sin is $49.99 and it comes with all DLC's and everything awesome I told you about up there.
Dark Souls II (the regular/original game) is $39.99.
Each DLC (3 of them) costs $10.
If you bought the regular DSII game and all 3 DLCs it would cost you $60.
Meaning it would be much cheaper and a much better deal to buy DSII:SotFS than to buy DSII and all the DLCs for it.
BUT WAIT!
It's on sale right now because bless Gaben for his wretched summer sales and the price of the game is only $25.99 you heard correctly folks just a short payment of $25.99 that's an amazing deal for a game of this caliber.
Why I can't get it: I had a bunch of money for the Steam sale but I actually ended up buying more gifts than games for myself lol. I bought myself maybe 2-3 games and I've bought over 10 games for other people. But I don't think that's a viable reason for wanting the game.
Why I really can't get it myself: To be completely honest, I'm a student, I don't have a job (currently looking for one), and I really really want this game I am passionate about. That is all. I don't NEED to play this game (although I do WANT to), I'm not dying next week and this is the last chance I have, and I certainly don't have an obligation to a dead/dying friend to play this game. I can't afford to buy myself any games or any nonessential items right now. Even with Summer sale I wanted to give people games because "you have such a big library why do you need more games".When I do giveaways I try to maximize gifting potential so that more people can get games. I don't mind sacrificing a few games for myself so that others can enjoy some stuff. This game is too good to not request it right away.
THIS is a picture that /u/Jaska95 commented on my first DSII request that shows what differs between Dark Souls II and Dark Souls II:Scholar of the First Sin.
Anyways, thank you SO much for reading this damn wall of text and I really appreciate the time you (the gifters/upvoters/commenters) have invested in reading ONE request. The game really is amazing and like all games I request and play I encourage you to check out the game and buy it for yourself, even if you don't want to/can't buy it for me. Especially since it's on sale and I think everyone needs to be abused and battered by a game at least once in their life and this is the best game to abuse you.
Here is a link to the game.
Here is my Steam profile. (please feel free to add me if you want to play with me or talk to me)
and Here is a picture of everyone's favorite SunBro.
