I've been following Massive Chalice for some time now - it's a game that looks to scratch a huge itch I've had since giving up my PS2 many moons ago.
Back then, my favourite games franchise were the Nippon Ichi canon - Disgaea, Phantom Brave, La Pucelle Tactics, Makai Kingdom... I spent hours upon hours levelling up, tweaking equipment, specialising characters... And when I wasn't playing them, I was reading up on them whenever I could. I was obsessed.
Since those days, I discovered rogue-likes and I couldn't get enough. Growing up with the Arcades on my holidays, the joy of punishment in games was something I'd missed. I fell in love with Spelunky (100 hours across varying platforms) and Super Meat Boy, I snapped up Nuclear Throne as soon as I could, I became enamoured with the procedural generation - each game was something new, even when the mechanics stayed the same.
So, that leads us back to Massive Chalice. When I saw that the game had elements from all my favourite genres, I immediately clamoured for it. After finishing off Dark Souls II for the 4th or so time, my attention has flitted from game to game but my eyes keep focusing back on this.
The game is currently on sale, but January has been a tough month for money and I currently can't justify (at least to my wife) spending £20 or so on the game - so I'm extending a hopeful hand, with the promise of paying it forward in future.
Thanks for reading :)
