Hello, I'm here again.
I wanted to talk about some confusion that I have. As you guys know, I scored a 104 on the weschler, which is average. However, I'm very skeptical of the test results and specific sections.
Firstly: it is true that I have bad short term memory. However, I can remember things for a long time. I remember most of my elementary and middle school class desk layouts and a good section of how my preschool was laid out. When I was young, I grabbed a book from a library, memorized the amount of pages, came back a year later and grabbed the same book.. I was around 1-2 pages off.
The second section that I'm confused about is digit span. This also has to do with long term memory. I'm able to remember 40 digits of pi for two years after practicing for just a couple days. Same goes for euler mascheronis constant, I learned 25-30 digits in 30 minutes and it took me only an hour at most to remember the constants numbers for weeks now. I know 62 or so digits of pi at the moment. But if you asked me to repeat back to you anything more than 7 digits, I couldn't. I also knew all the electoral college votes for each of the 50 states by 6th-7th grade and still do to this day (2010-2019 related).
The third section that I'm confused about is processing speed and some memory circuits associated with it. I have ADHD which can affect my processing speed. However, I am an amazing typist that can score 3 standard deviations or higher in most databases. I taught myself to type. I can touch type very well. I was in school and finished a semester long typing program in 2-3 weeks. I guess this isn't a definitive answer to how well my processing speed and other cognitive abilities are, but Im confused on how I could have low average processing speed it I am an amazing typist. I know that IQ doesn't have anything to do with typing speed, but processing speed certainly is correlated.
I also have ability to use chopsticks naturally in both hands (first time even using them). However, I struggle when it comes to things like tying my shoes even though I have some psychomotor abilities. I have autism as well.
I have a natural talent in creative building on games, but I don't think that should matter too much. It's just a game at the end of the day.
I would score high on achievement tests but not exceptional. I would get in the top 5% on most subjects in my state (local norm) and top 10% nationally. I achieved the 99th percentile in writing nationally on the ACT. My grade actually dropped in classes like stats and algebra I because I was under challenged, wouldn't study, and it eventually caught up to me. I got a 99% in stats class first semester and my grade dropped second semester to almost a B due to the problems I listed. I would also score advanced on state tests and they said I was under challenged. I'm in college now and it's hard to pay attention to stats because I only need such little time to complete work and I already know everything, and I feel as if this is unhealthy. I used to like to read above grade level but had bad comprehension, although later I scored 95th in reading comprehension on a standardized achievement test. I taught myself how to read before pre school and could spell out all months of the year using letters, before 2 years of age. I could say numbers 1-10 but that's it at 2, and I could do odd digits and even digits only and backwards. So, I was having difficulties and outstanding abilities at the same time.
And finally, I have a natural need for mental stimulation at all times. I get very depressed if I don't have puzzles or reading to do if I'm not enrolled in classes.
I have exceptional ability in pattern recognition, but the weschler didn't have much of a section on it.
Does this sound like struggles of a gifted person? I know the weschler is comprehensive.. but :/
I just feel like it's inaccurate given some of my abilities. Even if the IQ test is valid, I feel like I have giftedness in a lot of things.
