My uncle's trick for avoiding the awkward encounter of someone getting you a gift, and you did not get them a gift

Not sure how popular this is but I thought I'd share. During the holidays my uncle will always keep a "neutral" gift in his car, such as bottle of wine or a candle, wrapped and ready to go and if he goes to someone's house and they have a gift for him, he tells them that he left their gift in the car and he runs out and grabs it.

I think this is a neat little trick for avoiding that egg on face moment. Holidays are around the corner!
