Maybe a crazy thought, but I am rereading the Dark Tower series and something jumped out at me towards the end of "The Wastelands": Luddites.
Hear me out.
I know this a term outside of the residents of the doomed city of Lud, but then I got to thinking of some of the lyrics.
"The Luddites shun the diabolical A fecal trail across the land Although it Stinks, feels and looks identical And a pack of fools can take the stand
I am all eyes I am all ears I am the wall And I'm watching you fall
Because faith is mine!"
Not that everything fits, but the residents of Lud were petrified of "diabolical" Blaine. The city was a cesspool, including literally a stain of wastewater dumping down the cliff face. Visually the city was very similar to NYC. Maybe the pack of fools are Roland and his gang, or any of the groups living within the city. And Blaine literally heard and saw everything that went on in the city and he ended up killing everyone there. And lastly, everything that each of the groups within the city believed was ultimately under Blaine's control.
Crazy? Maybe...or maybe it is YOU that is crazy!?
