The Vajra is “The Jewel”. It is the masculine companion of The Lotus. Together, the Jewel and The Lotus symbolize all creation, up to, and not limited to, the creation of the Universe. This is the foundation of all ancient Hindu, Bôn, and Tibetan scriptures and practices. It is, IMHO, co-equal to the mystical Jewish (Kabbalah) creation myth of Light and Darkness.
The union of the two polarized forces of creation is objectified in the Hindi mantra: Om Mani Padme Hum Meaning: The Jewel is in The Lotus
