Hi /r/getmotivated, I know that a lot of people have had suicidal thoughts. I'd like to tell you a story about Guard.
Guard was a member of a close-knit community. We all played a game which was small in terms of players, so everyone got to know each other very well. We all shared facebooks, twitters, hell, I've even got a few phone numbers and regularly text these guys. There was a few hundred in the community.
In our community, we all spend a lot of time playing the game, and with eachother. Guard made a tonne of maps for the game, and also ran servers. We used to play other games with people in our group too, we were generally just good friends.
Guard took his life two weeks ago. He jumped from his apartment building. His family didn't know the real reason, but everyone knew what it was. He was severely dyslexic, and felt as though he had failed in life. He was lonely, and thought that no one ever appreciated him.
When he died, everyone was shocked. No one told him directly how much they appreciated him, because they didn't think they needed to. Sometimes talking to people can be the best option, I guarantee that if he was reminded of the great support he has online, he would've had second thoughts. I wish he had just spoke to one of us beforehand. Our community of 4 years was greatly saddened by the loss, and he will never know.
I just want to say that if anyone wants to talk to someone, please message me. I'd be grateful to have the opportunity to help anyone, whether your dilemma is small, or big. Guards situation was because he felt isolated. He felt as though no one could help him. Perhaps not, but talking to someone can only make it better.
