Fate of the dog in a Thomas Mann story. This has played on my mind for some time...

Post Body

Years ago, I read a Thomas Mann short story (auf Deutsch). By now, I've forgotten the name of the story to look this up...

But basically there was a train crash and one of the passengers had a dog. I understood enough to understand the gist of the story but never understood whether the dog survived or didn't survive.

Can anyone help? Bonus points for the exact quote.
