This is the biggest thing I struggle with. As far as I can tell, for verbs I have to remember how they change based on person, tense, and mood (imperative, indicative, etc.), and nouns have changing gender, cases (which I struggle with so much), and singular v. plural.
This is already so much to remember, but it’s made even worse for me by the fact that I can’t see any pattern in it. Verbs are a little easier, but nouns change so much. The gender has no conceivable pattern, and even worse is that the articles change depending on case too. Even just remembering the forms of “the” is a nightmare, because even though I can remember it for nominative and accusative, in dative and genitive the feminine “the” is the same as the nominative and accusative masculine “the”, and it makes no sense.
I could honestly ramble on and on about this, but in general I’m just so lost. I want to learn German, but I may not take this class again next semester because I’m not sure if I can handle it. Maybe I’m just looking at the whole picture too much, but I have no idea how to comprehend this.
