Following the high profile agreement of the Zelensky-Administration to two referendums on the future of the sovereignty of Ukraine, many leaders from around the country have taken to make their own comments. Naturally, most are either completely against it or see it as a farce or otherwise.
Servant of the People
The current largest party in Ukraine, the party of the President and the party of the populists. Currently led by Dmytro Razumkov, he comes out in support of the President with what’s been declared as open hesitance. Razumkov and the Party stand with Zelensky but hope that this does not follow any obligation of recognition, after all Russia has made it very clear that they have zero intent of respecting the Ukrainian positions.
The Party’s statement towards Russia was as clear as it was in 2014 that there will be interference on the side of Russia, regardless of how many observers will be present. They reported the same outcome in Crimea of voter intimidation, fraud, corruption and conspiracy. The party does overwhelmingly agree that it’s a simple waste of time, especially since most of the residents that resided there that were pro-Ukraine were already forced out.
Opposition Platform - For Life
Led currently by the 68 year old ex-Vice Prime Minister Yuriy Boykin, the OPLF’s stance on this issue is that, true, Ukrainian sovereignty must be upheld but the wishes of these peoples must be heard. “It should be used as a testament of how to improve.” He, along with one of Vladimir Putin’s closest friends in Ukraine, ex-People’s Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk, have both called for the referendums to be halted.
They submit a new, alternative proposal to the Donbass Referendum that Donetsk and Lugansk be integrated back into Ukraine as an autonomous oblast with a specific time-table for the country to reform as a Federation, enabling leaders more autonomy and personal rights.
Viktor Medvedchuk is one man known well to those in Donbass as he acted as a mediator from 2014-2019 in the region, even going as far to admit Russia’s armament of the rebels but stating it was necessary “as the EU and NATO were funding Ukraine.” They have not officially commented on Crimea outside of hoping “for the best”.
Batkivshchyna & European Solidarity
The party led by Yulia Tymoshenko and Petro Poroshenko are up in arms over the referendum, stating it would offer more legitimacy to these movements and simply solidifies the violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty in the first place. They state that they would be interested in working together “if it comes to it” on working against Servant of the People as well as the Opposition Platform to ensure Ukraine’s safety and sovereignty.
Their solution offers little goals besides continuing the Minsk Protocols of a ceasefire, demilitarizing the regions on both sides and the reintegration of Crimea and Donbass into Ukraine’s current situation, maintaining a unitary state. They call on the West to continue to help Ukraine.
Svoboda - Freedom
Leader Oleh Tyahnybok is no stranger to the situation in Donbass. Recently, he’s gone as far to unite the party with the National Corps, an openly neo-Nazi organization led by Andriy Biletsky. They, along with 2026 Presidential Candidate Ruslan Koshulynskyi, have advocated for war with Russia to “take back what is Ukrainian.”
It is here where they unveiled a detailed map of the Greater Ukrainian image based on population counts, exposing their full intent for a war not only on Russia but one of conquest of territory lost over 100-years ago.
“If Ukraine were to ever theoretically retake the Caucasus Mountains, it would ensure stability in the region not only for the citizens but also for Georgians, Chechens, Azeris and Armenians.”
They vowed to see an independent state in the mountain ranges respective of the wishes of the Muslim population. Their solution remains only and purely an all out war with the Russian Federation, stating that a Belarusian Front “was not off the table.”
Most of the leaders of the Party have been banned from entering the United States due to their open antisemitism and Neo-Nazi ties, most stating that the ‘Jewish’ Apparatus was the only thing bringing Russia and Ukraine to blows. Their agenda is maintaining a skepticism to the European Union and refusing to join but instead joining NATO out of political necessity.
