Campania, Italy

"To prosecute the Camorra, it is one of the most difficult thing to do." Captain of the Police in Naples, declaring nobody can be elected legally without aid from the Camorra Family.

Several Puma 6x6's drove around Campania Italy. On them were members of the gendarmerie, the Carabinieri who had pictures taken as they passed by civilians and tourists. They wore masks and refused to identify themselves. They had no badges, the only evidence that they were government forces was the convoy.

Two hours before, the Minister of Defence initiated a new police assistance protocol as he fired thousands of officers and soldiers who had ties to the Camorra, Stidda and La Cosa Nostra Crime Syndicates. He even fired his second in command, loyal and trusted friend who had evidence of accepting bribes back in 2017.

Here was the police now, on a war right against Camorra. La Cosa Nostra had no quarrels with them but ever since the arrests of the Stidda Family which effectively cut its command structure, the fighting in the streets escalated.

The convoy increased its speed as the streets they were going to were less populated and gunshots rang out in the sky as firefights between mobsters and police transpired. The police pulled back and these men went in. First the APC's took lead with the police pushing in behind them, using the armoured vehicle for cover.

The firefight had been ongoing for three hours and now, with their arrival, continued for another two before the police emerged victorious. The bad-guys were either dead, dying or in cuffs.

The Military was put on a higher alert as resignations and firings were dished out to anyone related to these crime families. There was approximately 300 cases of AWOL related to organized crime in the Italian Armed Forces. The Minister of Defence declared these men and potential women "terrorists." La Cosa Nostra and 'Ndrangheta has grown even more powerful as the arrests seem discriminated against their enemies.

Over the next few weeks, assassinations and carbombings were the most rampant alongside drive-by's and indiscriminate killings. Only men were killed - it was never women or children. They had a code, after all.

May 18th, 2026

Calabria, Italy

This area was the President's first constituency. Anything that happened here was politically sacred grounds but it was unavoidable. With what was going on, uniformity as well as a unified image was necessary. Members of the 'Ndrangheta Syndicates had met together, clans that once clashed had the largest sit down in Italy since the 1960's. They were the largest and most powerful syndicate in Italy but their intentions were expansion, especially with the holes that their enemies were gaining.

It was at this very sit down that they would highlight their positions with the police and military, trying to gain recruits with actual killing experience. Collectively, they all agreed - Italy was theirs. The President was in their pocket and the era of peace that the country had was now over.

The time for action was now as there was billions there for the taking! They just had to reach out and grab it. This sit-down is exactly what they did.

Halfway through the meeting, two Puma 6x6's drove up to the address. It was flashing blue and red on the front as two dozen armed men dismounted and moved inside. They saw no obstacles as they soon joined in the meeting, a bit off cue. "These are the men who I'm talking about. They are the new frontline, the new 'Ndrangheta. They are the New Italy." The leaders continued, "if anyone has objections, let it be known now..." A pause for effect carried on. "We are declaring war on La Cosa Nostra."

In the movies, there would be a sounding applause, cheers and jeers from the crowd. Some sort of group rallying cry. Something with sound.

Not today. Silence filled the room. Everyone in the room knew that their lives were now on the line.
