Bukavu, September 1st of 2022.
Moïse Katumbi, prosperous politician of the DRC, has been eyeing the presidency of the DRC for a while now; while he failed in his bill for anti-corruption rhetoric has only encouraged his ambitions. Recently, ever since the failure of the bill, he has been way more vocal than before on the issues that the DRC possesses, and he has found a way to use the new government initiative to provide a platform for his views and to encourage not only his popularity, but to convince the people of his own point of view.
The Foreign Lecture Initiative convinced him to start going to universities as a guest speaker, taking advantage of the fact that guest speakers are becoming more and more common in all of the centers of education in the Congolese nation; in a widely-publicized move on August 28th, Katumbi was seen donating US$1,000,000 to the University of Kinshasa and is now going to the University of Bukavu.
When he was present at the University, he did a forty-minute lecture on an economics class about entrepreneurship and, while at it, he vastly commented how corruption and cronyism are both actively hampering the development of the DRC and is going to slowly, but surely, stagnate the DRC until it economically collapses under its own, bureaucratic, corrupt weight.
Citing the Kabilists, Moïse maintained a hardline stance against corruption and maintained his last bill as the prime example of why corruption in the Congolese nation is widespread and deadly; and remarked that the corrupt behavior of elected officials is a great danger to the DRC, and that all intellectuals and politically-active young adults in the DRC at this very moment should invest themselves politically and be very active in all kinds of politics, including starting new NGOs to aid the poor and perform watchdog actions on the government itself.
These lectures starting taking the DRC by surprise; Félix was appalled at the comments that Katumbi was putting out to society, and the Kabilists were pressuring the president to make his move and disarm Katumbi somehow; but still, Félix was unsure of what exactly to do.
Katumbi’s lectures from September to November of 2022 were famous nation-wide, and his popularity between young voters was starting to really jump; the failure of his bill to pass through the National Assembly was a bigger boost to his popularity than any other measure thus far. The ambitious politician has really taken the nation by the storm and in a comment to a local news group when doing a lecture in the University of Kinshasa, Katumbi has commented that he really feels that the nation needs a revitalization of its politicians, and has said that he has a big interest in running for president and making the change he wants to see; here is an excerpt of the interview:
“I truly believe that, in order for change to come to the DRC, that I must take part in it. I need to be the change I want to see, and I must be the one to push forward this kind of change. I can’t just do it any other way, what will I do? Vote for crooked politicians? Endorse corruption? I encourage every Congolese out there who is tired of change to come, to be the change, to participate in change; that’s what I want to do with these lectures, I want to change the DRC, and I want to do it with the support of the people. Thank you.”
