It has happened. On a cold January morning, a vote of no confidence against FM Sturgeon took place for the millionth time. Tories, Labour, and the one lib dem that managed to sneak in symbolically voted against the continuation of Sturgeon's government, though of course this not enough.
However, something was different this time. MP MacMillan exchanged glances with some other SNP backbenchers before collectively standing up and requesting to perform a dramatic speech from the officiating official. Upon being told there was no such custom in Parliament, MacMillan simply started to speak.
"The Honourable First Minister Sturgeon has served Scotland well in most areas, we have to agree. Under her leadership, Scotland has gotten increased autonomy from Westminister. However, she has refused to listen to the Scottish populace on one critical matter: her obstructionist policies in Westminister! In seeking Scottish independence at all costs, ignoring two referendums to the contrary, she has sunk Scotland instead! The system which she is allowing to happen is financially ruining the British government, forcing it to take on more and more debt to which Scotland has a share of. More importantly, this system almost completely stops the flow of capital into Scotland from the wealthy parts of England, causing undue hardship to Scottish families. Even if we were to get independence eventually, the proportion of debt we will inevitably accumulate in the meantime would sink us to third world poverty levels and bar any entry into the EU. Sturgeon's one policy gives us neither the political benefits of independence nor the economics boons of close ties to England!"
MacMillan stopped for a moment, scanning the room to see smug faces on one side and utter horror on the other.
"This is why we humbly urge FM Sturgeon to heavily reconsider her current position. If we are to ever get independence, this is not the way. The Scottish people are tired of having their economic prosperity robbed by the one party that claims to represent them the most. The Scottish people are tired of having neither an effective Scottish government nor a British one for the matter. If we are to continue supporting your government, First Minister, we want change. We want a new system of government, not a leader that is the sole political force blocking it.
MacMillan and his group of SNP sit down. FM Sturgeon doesn't really have a choice, and tacitly agrees. The vote of no confidence fails, but the Scottish government as we knew it is no longer there. The most coherent political body in the British Isles has been broken, and in its place lies a figurehead held hostage by the true First Minister of Scotland, MP MacMillan the First. Though Scotland still has the SNP and will not return back to the old ways, its wings of independence are clipped but its future in the Union restored.
