Noise complaints: has anyone ever successfully seen police do anything about a business that is a constant disturbance. If so, how did you report or who did you talk to?

Post Body

I live in West Midtown across from the “Westside Cultural Arts Center” and it hosts events about 2-3x a week and it’s so loud I can’t think in my own apartment.

I’ve tried reporting through various ways and I am always told one of a few things,

“Help is on the way. If the situation changes please text or call us back.”

“a officer will be dispatched asap”

However, nothing ever changes and the music even gets louder at times before events end at 2-4am. Even after the events end - the noise doesn’t stop, often there will be honking and yelling until 4-5am, etc…

It really sucks and I can’t afford to move or go anywhere else at this point. The police don’t care and I’ve reached out to the business prior to all this and they lie and deny they are even having events (despite my balcony overlooking the road) and say they are for the community.

Some people are the worst and pretend to be for the “community” despite really meaning their specific community not the greater area or neighborhood.

EDIT: I know it's reddit but it's amazing how many people assume this 'arts center' is a 'events space' despite it not being advertised as such. There are no pictures of DJ's or bands playing music on the website - it looks like an art gallery which the name suggests as well. I moved in during 2020 and it was much quieter then but it's getting louder and louder as other clubs close in the area.

Also, to preface it's 99% the bass - the crowd noise and honking is annoying but that's not the real problem. The problem is that no matter what I do the bass penetrates my apartments walls - it's notoriously hard to block out bass at almost any level.

EDIT: If you are curious of the volume, (it can't be THAT loud, right?) you can sample the noise on their Instagram after events... can barely hear anything else in the space and almost every event is about the same volume.

I would go after the zoning laws. Are they zoned properly? What are the noise ordinances around there. I remember in the JC they actually got noise meters out to determine the decibel levels at certain times to show they were breaking the laws.

This isn't going to be easy, and I don't think the cops will help you. Call City council maybe and start there. See if you can get your neighbors to sign a petition at least.

What was there first, your apartment or the event center?

I know here in John's Creek a club got closed down because the neighborhood behind it for tired of the late night noise, but their HOA took over and fought it with the city.

Maybe you need more people to complain or to somehow get organized?

I'm sorry. We've reached the end of my knowledge on this.

Look up 37 Main in John's Creek. That was the club they closed. Maybe you can get ideas from that case.
