The Watatsumi Resistance Is Doomed To Fail
Post Body

When 2.0 arrived, and I learned about the sotuation Inazuma found itself in, I found myself pondering.

Why didn't the Shogun herself campaign with her armies? "Shogun" is a martial title in origin, which i assume was something needed to win the Archon War.

I know why, now, but I didn't before-- but, I digress. The point is, she didn't take tot he field, which is probably what gave Kokomi the courage to openly rebel against the Bakufu in the first place.

It would have been a very different matter had Ei been present, and not the Shogun, I think.

Ei is, first and foremost, a martial god, like Zhongli. While Makoto ruled the Shogunate, Ei brought low its enemies (i.e. Orobashi), marching alongside her armies as she did so, according to her cutscene. The Raiden Shogun's martial prowess is no doubt well known throghout Inazuma.

Had Ei not left the ruling of the Bakufu to the Shogun, I don't think Kokomi would have gone i to open revolt as she did, because I refuse to beleive she would do something so stupid if the god who slew hers and cleaved an island in two during the process was actually activly governing the nation. The Raiden Shogun's absence is what allowed the Resistance to make as many gains as they did.

But now, Ei is returning to pick up the mantle her sister left behind, and, if her voicelines are to mean anything, Watatsumi's treason isn't simply going to be overlooked. Someone will be punished for the island's rebellion-- who tha someone will be, however, remains to be seen.

And, to make things worse for the Resistance, peace terms are (seemingly) being offered-- a peace that will most likely not stand well with them. But, of Kpkomi is as smart as she says she is, she'll realize she has no choice but to accept them.

What else can she do, order her men to battle when the Shogun is prepared to take the field? They'll be nothing but lambs to the slaughter.

But, those are just my thoughts. What are yours?

TL;DR: The moment Ei stepped out of Euthymia to actually rule, any hopes of a Resistance victory beyond "Abolish the VHD" died.
