Ok so I see a lot of people on Twitter and here saying he might be blind/partially blind. Here is my take on him. He is not blind, just focused on other things. As you can see in this photo he smiles at the girl when he hovers over the glass she gave him. I think the whole idea on why he acts the way he does is the same when you are working/watching something on your PC and you wanna get something on the desk without looking away from the screen. In the shot after you can see he is not looking at the cup but in front of him, so he probably doesn't wanna take his eyes from whatever is there.
