[SUBREDDIT ANNOUNCEMENTS] - Changes to the Sub, and a New Megathread!
Author Summary
LedgeEndDairy is in SUBREDDIT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Post Body

Hi all!

It's your brand new mod of the sub, /u/LedgeEndDairy here. I've finally had a chance to discuss the direction we want the sub to take with /u/hajime_kijima (we're on VERY different timezones, haha).

We have more changes planned for the future as well, but they require a bigger mod team (we're looking and we think we've found a couple, don't forget to apply if you're interested!). We'll keep you posted as things evolve.

Without Further Ado:

CLEANING UP LOW EFFORT AND "UNRELATED TO TIPS" POSTS

First and foremost, I think most of the sub's regulars are sick of the "what team should I use?" posts. We're happy to announce we'll be creating a weekly megathread - linked in the sidebar most likely rather than pinned - where newbies and veterans alike can redirect these questions in one area.

Veterans are encouraged to participate in these megathreads and answer questions! It'll only work if we have people of all skill levels visiting. If we have to pin it for visibility we will, but we'd rather avoid that if possible, so we can pin announcements and other more relevant topics.

Note that for now we're going to pin the megathread for visibility as it's a new thing, but we hope to phase that out in the future when automod takes over.

(I know, it's ugly right now, that'll change in the future).

VETERANS, PLEASE HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS!

  • We can't justify a megathread to clean up the sub if people aren't getting help in it! :)

A note on low effort and flagrant self-promotion (particularly of the goofy/click-baity variety): we are getting rid of these posts moving forward. This is going to make some people mad, and for that we apologize. We encourage posts that provoke quality discussion on the game, and love great videos that showcase this. If your post, however, is not related to learning the game at all, we will unfortunately have to remove it.

We are going to be rather strict on this. If you think we've unjustly removed a post - recognize that we're human, send us a mod mail and try not to be argumentative (and we'll try to do the same).

We're also removing the "Gameplay" tag as we realize now that it's kind of confusing. The original intent was showing bugs or things of that nature, but it's just being used as a backdoor to self-promotion for non-learning-related videos.

REDIRECTING SIMPLE QUESTIONS

Outside of team request posts, there are also a lot of one-liner, non-discussion-provoking question posts. These, going forward, will be redirected to /r/Genshin_Impact's Daily Question Thread. We thought about creating a megathread for this or combining it with the team request thread but didn't feel right about splitting the community in this way. The main sub has this, no reason not to direct people there for answers to simple questions.

After taking these steps, our hope is that the sub will be in a much cleaner state. Please be patient with us as we start putting things in motion, it takes time to get things like this moving.

What Does "Simple" Mean?

Honestly this is where we'd like input from you guys. A good majority of the posts here are questions. Some "technically" provoke discussion, but they'd also be fine to be redirected to the questions megathread on the main sub.

As I'm browsing "new" right now, there are about 5 to 10 questions on the first page, most of which are basic, asked numerous times, but again technically can provoke discussion (things like "what weapon is best for my character?"). I think we want to limit these kinds of posts, and we may do weekly discussion threads - either discussing different characters, different weapons, or whatever. For now we will be lenient on these posts, but please express your opinion on this so we know what you guys want to see/not see.

SUGGESTIONS

We're open to suggestions. We want this to be a community, not an oligarchy. If you have any opinions on the proposed suggestions above, please voice your opinion below.

If you have other suggestions, please also discuss below.

Our hope is to have a high-quality subreddit with mostly-solid discussion and organized access to posts that will help anyone learn the ins and outs of the game. A lofty goal, but that's our hope! :)

EDIT: NEW MOD!

Join me in welcoming /u/Madjawa to the mod team! From what I understand he'll be our technical guy with automod, and comes in with some decent modding experience from other subreddits. Our little family is growing, and things are continually moving forward! :)

SECOND EDIT: AUTOMOD IS UP AND RUNNING!

Madjawa has adjusted some of the settings and we are monitoring the posts it flags and removes. For now the restrictions are light (it mostly warns us of potential low-quality posts rather than removing them outright), but as we get a feel for the culture of the sub we'll probably be tightening the restrictions to be more in line with what we see are common low-quality flags, etc.

if Automod unjustly removes your post (easiest way to check is by seeing if your post is in "new" - if it doesn't show up, it's been removed), then mail us and we'll take a look and get back to you! :)
