"Wait till this guy sees the sky assholes"
Post Body

I wrote a few weeks ago when I started playing. I jokingly asked if it would get any harder than the stupid dog looking things. The quote above from one of you still makes me laugh.

I feel like I stepped out of Nam. I have since taken out a few bases, fought my way to the Northern tip at about level 16 which is pretty much suicide. I have killed a few sky assholes and have been amazed at the intelligence of the larger robots particularly at the airfield. I'm going to share a few things for the newer players (many of you are VERY experienced so feel free to add your expertise).

Early game tips:

  1. Get used to shooting the fuel tanks off of runners. Its the best way to get them to explode. This applies to nearly every robot but runners have top mounted so they are easier to target.
  2. Google where to find your first P-90 and hunting rifle. HUGE difference in your lethality early game.
  3. Recycle any bullets you arent using and start paying attention to steel. Youll use it a lot in the future so recycle half your red gas tanks and just pop the extra into the recycling area
  4. Just like DayZ, buildings are your friend early game. Mid game not so much with arty strikes being able to hit you even indoors. Take advantage of doorways and use pop in pop out attacks to surprise hunters and runners
  5. Once you get to hunters with sniper rifles, you have to change tactics because those sneaky bastards will snipe you from the woods in skirmishes and you'll never see it coming.
  6. I completely lost my fear of big robots by going to the airfield and literally running Benny Hill circles around hangars. While those mech idiots were shooting my companion, I would pop in and blast them from the back or just lob grenades.
  7. Speaking of: If you need battle experience, go to the airfield and shoot at a hunter. The resulting chase will teach you their predictable tactics and dont be scared to run and gun. You WILL win over time if you just keep plinking at them and avoiding their predator red light shot and gas attacks
  8. Most of this game early stage is honestly just learning the patterns of the robots and then weapons builds. Corrosive ammo was just added to my arsenal and I LOVE IT.

What would you guys add? Im having a BLAST.

My advice: don't bother with explosive booby traps (land mines, gas tanks, etc) for anything bigger than a hunter. Setting up traps is fun and cool but accomplishes very little against the big boys. Sky assholes? Shoot em in the eye, they'll go down way faster than shooting the engines. I like to get all kinds of recoil reduction bonuses and just dps with the sniper on components. Also you can avoid getting hit by tanks' autocannon by simply strafing to one side believe it or not
