3 films that resonate with this Gen Jones kid
Post Body
Two of them have the great GJ actor, Matt Dillon.
- Over the Edge, from 1979, but set early 70s I think. For a few years, I grew up in a suburb of Louisville, KY. Like many of you, we were on our bikes all the time. And we were little shits, let me tell you: cussing adults and vandalizing and breaking stuff. This movie is extreme, but represents the empty suburban neighborhoods of the time.
- Slacker, 1990. I never lived in a bigger city, certainly not Austin, but this movie hooked me, I WANTED to be these guys, and in some way I was. No ambition, just wanted to work a crap job, get through college, drink w/ pals and talk about philosophy, and make some art. Score w/ the occasional girl.
- Singles, 1990. Another one that my life was different from, but this one clicked w/ me in a similar way, but obv these characters are further along in life, in professional careers and stuff.

Alice Doesn't Live Here depicts a Generation Jones kid and lifestyle situation. I'm Gen X but saw that one recently and its pretty good slice of life for the time. The actor that plays the son was born in 62 and the movie is set in 74.
