I can't crack the mystery of my 3x great grandfather, who I believe(d) to be Hermann Marcus, born 4 April 1845 in Berlin and his wife Henriette Cohn born 30 May 1831 (weird age gap here) in Krone An Der Brahe, Prussia (presently Koronowo, Poland). By all accounts these should be the parents of my 2x great grandfather Alexander Edward Marcus, born 3 March 1873 in Krone An Der Brahe. However, when I found Alexander's immigration records, he and his siblings are listed as immigrating to NYC from Posen Via Hamburg on the Cimbria, arriving on the 1st of January (though his naturalization paperwork lists it as the 1st of May) 1881 with an Ephraim and Jette Marcus. I have never heard of these people in my life, nor do I know of them being in my family tree. Interestingly, I found that Jette can be a shortened version/nickname for Henriette, which is the name of our Hermann's wife. Can someone please help me with this mystery? Can Hermann be a nickname for Ephraim? Who are these people, and is Hermann Alexander's father?
