My surname seems pretty Norman (Pettis, although I've matched to variants Pettus and Pettit), but the Haplogroup of those who share it are mostly R1B, whereas I am I2a2. According to FTDNA's Haplogroup match map, the only place they've found 1-step yDNA relatives are in Norway, Sweden, Isle of Lewis, and Yorkshire (the last two being Viking settlements), and two matches in the Southern US (where I am). Does that mean my ancestors definitely came before 1066 with the Vikings? Do you think there's any possible way to find out which specific Vikings my yDNA came from, if so? Thanks!
